IT English Composition is part of the elective course from Applied Associate Degree program in Cybersecurity and Information Technology Professional program. This course focuses on the essential IT skills and knowledge needed to perform tasks commonly performed by advanced end-users and entry-level IT professionals. This is also intended for candidates who are advanced end users and/or are considering a career in Information Technology. The course serves as a valuable pre-requisite for individuals seeking to obtain advanced IT certifications such as A+, Network+ etc.
In this course, students are introduced to professional technical writing. Professional technical writing is more than producing a user manual with highly specialized codes and language. It is now largely understood as the writing and documentation that takes place for work. Professional technical writing, like academic writing, is written to a particular audience. It has purpose and needs clarity. However, it also emphasizes easy navigation, concision and accuracy. Students will identify the six elements of professional technical writing and produce four professional documents which include a workplace email, written instructions, an informational slideshow, and a cover letter. Grammar tips and punctuation as well as formatting lessons are provided for each document.
