Covid19 Corona Virus Response

Several weeks ago, ABCO Technology started creating contingency plans for responding to the COVID-19 Coronavirus. We have created a specific page on our website to provide updated information about our plans to the entire community. The health and safety of our students and their families is and always will be our highest priority.

We are in daily contact with local health authorities and are using their updates and guidance in formulating our plans. Our task force includes consulting with several doctors and medical professionals from the ABCO Technology’s community to help us make well informed decisions. Please keep this page bookmarked and available; it will be frequently updated with new information as it becomes available, which will also be conveyed to you through weekly email updates during this current situation as well as  text messages when appropriate.

If you have questions about how our school is managing issues related to COVID-19, please email our School Counselor   at: cpascal@abcotechnology.edu

Student Update: March 11, 2020

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS

Coronavirus infections are transmitted in a manner similar to many flus and respiratory illnesses through droplets in the air from a cough or sneeze.  While the risk of coronavirus is serious, please keep in mind that the risk of contracting influenza is still more significant. Increased awareness and practice of the following precautions, by both faculty and students, is strongly advised.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after using the bathroom, before eating, after blowing your nose, and after touching public surfaces. If this is not possible, then use a hand sanitizer gel.
  • Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze by using a tissue that you immediately throw into a trashcan or by covering your face with your elbow (bent arm) if no tissue is available.  Do not cough or sneeze into the open air or into your hands. And wash your hands immediately afterward.
  • In public places, put distance (about six feet if possible) between you and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
  • If you have not already done so, get a flu shot. The flu is an ongoing concern and currently is even more dangerous than the coronavirus.
  • Do not come to school if you don’t feel well. Students, staff, and faculty who are symptomatic of illness are encouraged to remain home until symptoms, including but not limited to coughing, sneezing, runny nose, and fever, subside. Instructors will work with students to ensure every effort is made to minimize academic impact.

ACADEMIC PREPARATIONS

In the event that circumstances require ABCO Technology to move its program online for a period of time, we will prioritize the student-teacher relationship so that the quality of teaching and learning remain intact as much as possible. This will mean leaning on our online communication systems more than ever before. In preparation for such a situation, we encourage all students to be prepared.  Most of our learning materials, and labs are online. We will use technology to ensure students continue to receive quality education.

In addition, please know that the school administration and faculty are currently working together to develop contingency plans in the event that instruction is disrupted. In addition, we are testing various technology methods to  practice and prepare for various remote learning situations.
